How to tie your belt
In case you were wondering how to tie your karate belt... here's how!
When starting at the club there are some customs that must be adhered to as it helps us all train politely and safely together and supports the culture of community and teamwork that we have worked so hard to create. This starts with keeping the dojo clean and safe by putting away clothing, shoes etc. in the appropriate places and keeping seating available for those watching the classes. If you notice an issue like toilet paper missing or the check-in system not working, politely bring it to the attention of the staff and they will see that it is corrected. If you see a problem that you can fix, please fix it.
Entering and leaving the training floor means performing a bow to the front of the room and being in uniform. Don’t get dressed IN the dojo, get dressed and then enter the dojo. If you are on the training floor it should be to warm up or practice and that’s all. If you do not wish to do these things, please wait in the waiting room. Lining up for class is in order of rank and the most senior students line up farthest from the entrance (close to the hanging bags) while the junior students line up nearest the entrance. If you don’t know where to be, ask someone senior to you and they will help you out.
If you need assistance at the front desk to pay for your membership, purchase uniforms etc. politely ask a staff member to help you and they will when they can. Waiting right next to them and staring will not make them help you any sooner. If they cannot immediately help, they will be available between classes or they will pass the information along to Sensei who can fix every problem.
Belt promotions are available after a student has:
Met the time minimum (the check in app will tell you)
Met the class attendance minimum (the check in app will tell you)
Learned to correctly perform the required material (the app tells you what this is for each rank)
These promotions are AVAILABLE but not guaranteed at this time. The more you ask for your next belt/stripe, the longer you will wait for it. The instructors are aware of who has met the minimum requirements and will present you with your next rank when they determine you are ready, not because you are pestering them. If you would like to hurry your next rank along, practice more, ask questions that you have tried to figure out already and show the correct attitude whenever you are in class. Attitude goes a VERY long way at this club, sometimes even more than absolute skill.
